ASME Spherical Storage Tank

Engineered for large-scale storage of liquefied gases such as LPG, anhydrous ammonia, propylene, butadiene, and LNG, this spherical tank is built to the rigorous ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII. Its design is optimal for maintaining gases in liquid form under pressure, typically at temperatures down to -50°C.

The spherical shape inherently distributes internal pressure uniformly across the entire shell, eliminating stress concentrations and enhancing structural integrity. This design also offers the most efficient surface area to volume ratio, minimizing material usage and reducing heat transfer losses in cryogenic applications. Consequently, a sphere requires a thinner shell for the same pressure rating compared to a cylindrical vessel.

While spherical tanks involve higher fabrication costs due to their construction from formed petal plates and specialized support structures, their superior strength, efficiency, and proven performance at scale make them the preferred choice for critical industrial gas storage in refineries, petrochemical plants, and terminals.
